The British International school hosted a Book Week from February 26 to March 1, 2024.
It is an annual event that students, teachers and even parents look forward to. The aim of the week is to develop the students' love and interest in books and reading. «We encourage reading as much as possible. It's the most important skill any of our children will learn», explains Daniel Kelly, Headteacher of Schools 2 and 9.Developing a love of reading is no simple task. The costume parade, themed activities and quizzes are what make our Book Week so special and so much fun!
For 5 whole days, primary school students took part in engaging activities:
- «Reading buddies»: children were divided into pairs: older and younger students. The children took turns reading a chosen book to each other, sharing their opinions and practising their listening skills.
- «Book in a box»: children had to be creative, take a box and decorate it in the style of their favourite book or recreate a scene from a book.
- «Extreme reading»: children had to take a picture with a book in an unusual place or situation. They did it perfectly and proved once again that you can read everywhere and anytime — sitting backwards on a horse, doing sports or dancing, skating or snowmobiling, even under water or flying in a hot-air balloon.
Book Week is always a holiday. And even if it is over, the love for reading, new discoveries and fond memories will stay with the children for a long time. Have a look at how our Book Week was — check out the photo selection!
