Foundation Stage (Nursery & Reception)
We are a multicultural school and English is not the mother tongue for many of our pupils. Much emphasis is placed on activities that aid language development. The focus on language in Foundation Stage is on speaking and listening. Vocabulary, day-to-day phrases, and correct sentence structure are acquired and developed through a practical and active approach. Therefore a lively environment is provided using songs, rhymes, stories, drama, expressive and creative activities. The child is presented with materials, which will develop motor coordination, intellectual thinking, questioning and understanding as well as social skills and self-discipline.
Key Stage One
Years 1 & 2 gradually offer a more formal structure, which ensures that children develop in all areas of the curriculum. Lessons aim to develop the balance of skills necessary for reading and writing. History, geography and science are taught within a relevant thematic framework. ICT, Music, Art and Physical Education are taught following National Curriculum requirements. Within these areas of study there is a strong emphasis on cross-curricular links. Pupils study Russian in differentiated groups depending on their level of understanding.
Key Stage Two
More sophisticated concepts are introduced within the National Curriculum subject areas or within a cross-curricular framework. From Years 3 to 6, great emphasis is placed upon the student as a learner through practical activities and investigations.
